Artist Statement
I have always loved books, printing and illustrations enhancing the printed page. I began doing calligraphy while living in Brooklyn, New York influenced by my discovery of the American Arts and Craft Movement which emphasized hand craftsmanship.
Upon returning to Kentucky I took up book binding using traditional techniques and Coptic Stitch binding taught by Berea paper artist Gin Petty. After retirement I volunteered at the King Library Press where I learned to compose and set metal type using antique manual printing presses and helped with bookbinding projects.
