Janet James

Finding birds, other wild animals, and native wildflowers in awe-inspiring natural settings is my life-long passion. For me it is thrilling to look at the seemingly infinite variety of flora and fauna through a camera lens. It provides an intimate outdoor adventure in the moment and photographs to savor later or share with others. I strive for sharp, tightly cropped images that look directly into the raw expression of Nature’s Eye.

As a wildlife photographer, I enjoyed creating nature photo greeting cards for sale at Lexington’s Good Foods Coop and other locations for many years. All profit from that effort was donated to conservation organizations.

During the last few years, I photo-documented our 120 Kentucky native tree species and donated those images to the publicly accessible Lexington Arboretum database (uky.arboretumexplorer.org) This included for each species the winter form, bark, winter bud, leaf, flower, seed structure, summer form, and fall leaf color resulting in over 1,000 pictures. I also donated those tree images for the UUCL Seven Acres Tree Walk web pages. (uucl.org/seven-acres-tree-walk)
