Interested in Membership?

We are delighted you are considering membership at UUCL!

We look forward to getting to know you and journeying with you as you discover this wonderful community. Below you will find the steps to becoming a member of UUCL.

Step 0: Already a UU?

Already a Unitarian Universalist? Great! We’re delighted to have you. Please contact the Minister to set up a conversation and plan on attending the next UUCL Pathway to Membership class.

Step 1: Website, eNews

We encourage you to learn about us and some of what is happening on our website. We also recommend the website of the Unitarian Universalist Association (uua.org) for more information about our wider faith. You are also invited to stay up-to-date on the many wonderful Groups & Events at UUCL through our Weekly eNews.

Step 2: Intro to UU Class

Organized by the Membership Team and our Minister, Intro to UU classes are designed for those new to Unitarian Universalism, and provide brief glimpses into our history, our beliefs, and what UUCL has to offer as your spiritual home. Intro to UU is offered almost every month. All are welcome and childcare is provided.

Step 3: Trying on the Church

If you think UUCL might be your new spiritual home, we encourage you to explore the many ways you can be involved, and try some of them out! You might want to usher/greet, sing in the choir, participate in social events, help in the kitchen, tend our grounds, or join a small group. And, of course, we recommend attending several Sunday services before joining. There are always a wide variety of events and happenings at UUCL.

Step 4: Pathway to Membership Class

When you’ve decided you would like to become a member, reach out to the Membership Team and sign up for our Pathway to Membership class. After a Sunday service, we will gather to explore, in depth, the history of UUCL, Unitarian Universalism, and go over the nuts and bolts of being a member of our community. Pathway to Membership is held twice a year in Fall and Spring.

Step 5: Make a Commitment

Becoming a member is a commitment to not only our religious way of life, but also to the continued existence of our community in Lexington. We ask that you give of your time, your talent, and your treasure. UUCL is entirely member supported, and your financial gifts help us to live our mission and ensure the voice of Unitarian Universalism continues in the Bluegrass.

Step 6: Sign the Membership Book

Signing the book and making a commitment happens at the end of our Pathway to Membership class. Upon signing, you’re a member! Congratulations! We look forward to having you as a part of our community for as long as you find a home here at UUCL.

Step 7: New Member Ingathering

Held the week after Pathway to Membership, this Sunday service presents our new members to the congregation so they can be especially welcomed. Led by the Minister, the Board President, and the Membership Team, this service is a celebration of your commitment to our community.

Step 8: Become a Part of the Community

Now it is time to get more involved! Seek out experiences that will deepen your journey into Unitarian Universalism. Volunteer to teach a Religious Exploration class, help with a Sunday service, join a team/committee, attend more social functions, and make friends. If you’re not sure where to start, contact us. UUCL is here to guide you as you grow in your own spiritual journey in community with fellow seekers.
